Main topics of International Cooperation


a. Implementation of the Agreement to End the Conflict


  • May,2019. Visit of experts from Ireland, Gina McIntyre, Head of Specials Programs of the European Union of Northern Ireland and professors Duncan Morrow and Kieran McEvoy who conduct workshops chaired by the High Councilor for Stabilization and Consolidation, Emilio Archila focused on good practices and the “Peace with Legality” Plan.
  • Ireland has made financial contributions to the EU Trust Fund and the United Nations Multi-Donor Fund for post-conflict.
  • Exchange of experiences in peace and post-conflict: On January 24, 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ambassador of Ireland and the High Counsel for the Post-conflict to formalize Ireland`s cooperation through the sending to Colombia of Mr. Patrick Colgan, former head of special programs of the European Union in Northern Ireland.


b. Agriculture


  • Implementation of the MOU between the Irish Authority for the Development of Food and Agriculture (TEAGASC) and Agrosavia signed on March 18, 2019. Visit of the Director of Agrosavia in September 2019 to Ireland and meetings with Teagasc, Department of Agriculture, Irish Aid, University of Cork.
  • Previously, a visit to Colombia of an exploratory TEAGASC mission was carried out between July 16 and 20, 2018; which determined potential work areas.


c. Cooperation in Education, Cultural and Sports


  •  June 2019. Meeting of Universities in Ireland. Presence of EAFIT in Dublin and Cork with meetings with Trinity College, UCC, UCD and other.
  •  Within the framework of the implementation of the Declaration of Intent for the promotion of culture and sport, signed at the visit of the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins (February 14, 2017); between March 25 and April 5, 2018, 12 young people and 1 coach of Cúcuta participated in a rugby sports exchange in Dublin and Limerick, which was supported and accompanied by the Irish Rugby Football Union – IRFU.
  • President Michael D. Higgins received the young players in the presidential palace on April 29. The president invited to the young players to be positive leaders of their community and to promote the participation of women in sports and society.
  • Regarding the exchanges made previously with Ireland, were in September 2013 in Rugby with young people from the departments of Córdoba and Valle del Cauca, and in September 2017 with young people from the departments of Vichada and Guaviare in the genre musical – Llanera harp.
