Female empowerment and education exchanges as potential new areas of cooperation for Colombia and Ireland moving forward

 

In a meeting with Minister of State for Overseas Development and Diaspora, Colm Brophy TD, Ambassador Cortés Ortiz remarked the importance of cooperation and sharing of good practices among both countries for the implementation of the Peace with Legality policy; as well as the contribution of Ireland in the 3rd Donors Conference to tend to the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela. Minister Brophy recognised the efforts and the generosity of Colombia in its decision to grant the Temporary Protective Status to more than 1.8 million Venezuelan migrants living in Colombia.

In the meeting, Minister Brophy and Ambassador Cortés also discussed new areas of cooperation significant for both countries, such as agricultural extension programmes, education exchanges and the promotion of gender equality and female economic and social empowerment.

Additionally, the Ambassador conveyed an invitation to a 76th UNGA parallel event, focused in addressing the humanitarian crisis of Venezuelan migrants and refugees; Colombia’s commitment and measures, and encouraged Minister Brophy to share his views and experiences during the event.
