Bilateral Mechanisms - Ireland

 

First meeting of the Political Consultation Mechanism, Dublin, September 16, 2019.

It took place in the framework of the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Holmes Trujillo to Ireland. Minister Trujillo was accompanied by the ambassador, Patricia Cortes, the executive director of Procolombia for Ireland and the United Kingdom, Jose Puyana;  and the director of Agrosavia, Jorge Mario Diaz, among other officials. From Ireland, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney and Secretary General Niall Burgess chaired the meeting, accompanied by Ambassador Alison Milton, the director of America, Brian Glynn and the director of Political Affairs, Sonia Hyland, among other officials.

During this Political Consultation both delegations reaffirmed the excellent state of the bilateral relationship and reviewed issues with emphasis on the economic agenda and opportunities in investment, trade and tourism; cooperation on issues such as agriculture, innovation and education, and lessons learned on issues of implementing peace agreements. In multilateral affairs, the delegations discussed the crisis in Venezuela and the impact on Colombia, the region and globally; Colombia's proposal for a Court in the Fight against Corruption and the “Pact for the Amazon” a regional initiative that has had the leadership of Colombia were mentioned.

• Within the framework of these consultations, the MOU was signed between the two Governments for the employment of dependents of embassy officials in the State of the Other Party.
