President Petro meets US President, Joe Biden

President Petro shared Colombia's new holistic approach to face consumption and trafficking of drugs with US President, Joe Biden

President Petro and President Biden met at the end of April to advance bilateral cooperation on issues of common interest such as climate change, clean energy transition, migration, fight against drug trafficking and peace. They discussed the unavoidable commitment required to face the climate crisis, and agreed to work in an ambitious and productive UN Climate Change Conference (COP28); and in other international scenarios to achieve tangible results. The US is the largest international contributor to climate action in Colombia with a budget of US$87 millions for the last two years and a proposal to Congress of US$45 for 2024. President Biden applauded President Petro's pledge to protect the Amazon and the extraordinary goal set by Colombia to reach zero deforestation by 2030. Both Presidents agreed on a new holistic approach in fighting the consumption and trafficking of illegal substances which have had devastating effects for people in Colombia and the US in regards to health, security, biodiversity, economy, among others. Read more.
