Colombia continues to make progress in environmental policy and consolidates as a leading country in energy transition
The Colombian government launched in September the roadmap for the development, generation and use of hydrogen as a clean energy source, which will consolidate the energy transition policy the country is leading in Latin America and the Caribbean. On 29th September, Colombia became the second country in Latin America to issue Green Bonds, with which the nation accelerates the fulfilment of the environmental goals defined by the Government of President Iván Duque.
In addition, Colombia is advancing with the International Energy Agency to define the roadmap to incorporate the country to the IEA as part of its consolidation of the energy transition. Besides, President Iván Duque has recently participated in the installation of the High-Level Dialogue on Climate Action in the Americas to highlight the condition of vulnerability of the LAC region to the impacts of climate change and the need to promote a higher level of ambition in actions to reduce emissions, adaptation and financing at a global level, with a view to the agreements to be concluded at the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in November 2021 in Glasgow. Finally, President Duque led the Third Summit of the Leticia Pact on 8th October, with his counterparts and heads of delegation from Amazonian countries, to evaluate the progress in the implementation of the Pact and to seek the strengthening of cooperation between the Amazonian countries and with other partners, in addressing the challenges of deforestation, forest degradation, and increase the provision of financial services.
