Dublin (Oct 21/2021) As part of the Plan to Promote Colombia Abroad, the Embassy will present a selection of films from the documentary series Colombia Bio, in collaboration with the UCD Earth Institute and the UCD Biological Society. The opening event took place on 21st October and included the participation of Colombian biologist and birding guide Diego Calderón in conversation with ornithology expert Dr. Adam Kane, from the School of Biology and Environmental Studies in UCD.

The animated conversation revolved around birding and documentary filming as a great vehicle to communicate science and environmental protection. Diego Calderón spoke of his brief experience in the UREKA programme at UCD and his current approach to biology, alternating scientific expeditions such as the current Colombia Bio Wings, songs and colours with birdwatching guided tours.

Colombia Bio is an initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation that invited more than 500 experts (scientists, researchers, filmmakers and producers) who in collaboration with local communities promote the study, conservation, management and sustainable use of biodiversity. The expeditions, which started in 2016, have resulted in a series of documentaries that support the idea that art and science can complement each other to promote cross-cutting issues such as climate change and biodiversity protection.

After the conversation, the first documentary "La casa de la vida" (The House of Life) was screened. The cycle of documentaries will continue on October 26th and November 2nd and 9th with the screening of "La tierra del agua", "Vichada" and "Cita con la trocha".

The Plan to Promote Colombia Abroad is a tool of cultural diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, which seeks to support the achievement of the foreign policy goals of the Colombian State.
