Colombia demonstrates its resilience through the economic reactivation in 2021
Colombia demonstrate its resilience through economic reactivation with a growth in 2021 above 8.5%, the highest in this century, according to President Iván Duque and the Ministry of Finance. According to President Duque, in just 10 months 2021 becomes the best year in the history of Colombia in the commercialization of housing with more than 190 thousand units sold. We are talking about growth of 40% in Social Investment Housing (VIS) and 37% in non-VIS.
In the second quarter of 2021 resulted in the recovery of 2.1 million jobs, from which 1.1 million correspond to female employment according to the Colombian National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE as per its initials in Spanish). The sectors that lead the recovery of female employment are professional, scientific, technical, accommodation and food services; arts and entertainment activities, and commerce. “It is gratifying to see that Colombians are leading the economic reactivation today, and not only that: they are also venturing into new fields"stated recently Vice President and Foreign Minister, Marta Lucía Ramirez.
The ICC Prosecutor recognises the institutional efforts of Colombia and its commitment with justice, peace and reconciliation
The cooperation agreement was signed at the end of October in Bogotá. During his speech, Prosecutor Karim Khan congratulated Colombia and its institutions for “their commitment, their determination to find justice. My office and I will continue to accompany them as servants of justice, as those who support Colombia and its hopes”. The ICC Prosecutor stressed the willingness and collaboration of all the representatives of the institutions with whom he spoke, including civil society inside and outside the country, the judges and magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice, the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation and members of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP), among others. In relation to the signed agreement, jurist Karim Khan explained that "the trajectory that Colombia is on is very positive, it requires our support and needs to be recognised, and this is precisely what the recently signed agreement symbolises". The Path of the Anaconda culminates the Embassy's biodiversity programme this autumn
On 23rd November at 6pm, the Embassy culminates its biodiversity programme for this autumn with the online screening of The Path of the Anaconda in collaboration with Pearse Street public library. Almost 50 years after shaking hands for the very first time, writer and explorer Wade Davis and anthropologist Martin von Hildebrand, who has devoted his life to protecting the Amazon, meet again to carry out a trip up the rivers and trails that were traveled earlier by the legendary botanist Richard Evans Schultes.
The programme began on 30th September with author, anthropologist and explorer Wade Davis in the fireside chat Magdalena. A Story of Colombia, followed by the presentation on Chiribiquete by science journalist Angela Posada Swafford and the selection of documentaries from the series Colombia Bio presented in collaboration with UCD Earth Institute. UNIBIRDS, the visual installation by Sergio Mantilla and Miguel Chaparro was launched in Dublin and illuminated the façade of the Palace Street Building from 2nd to 5th November thanks to the kind support of Dublin City Council.
