UNESCO recognises the Ancestral Knowledge of the Sierra Nevada in Colombia as Intangible Cultural Heritage
In November, UNESCO recognised as intangible cultural heritage of humanity the Ancestral Knowledge System of the four indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta: Kogui , Wiwa, Arhuaco and Kankuamo, as intangible cultural heritage of humanity. "The Ministry of Arts, Cultures and Knowledge recognizes these four communities as teachers of nature and water. They are teaching us, their younger brothers, a new relationship of wisdom with the water, nature, the earth and also with human beings," said the Colombian Minister of Culture, Patricia Ariza. After a very successful presentation in Dublin's Culture Night, the exhibition The Black Line. Sacred Landscapes of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta will be shown at the Bourn Vincent Gallery in Limerick, from 13th to 23rd February 2023. First official visit of the Oireachtas Joint Committee of Foreign Affairs to Colombia
The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense visited Colombia in November with the purpose of deepening political and economic relations and reiterating Ireland's interest in expanding cooperation opportunities at the bilateral and multilateral level. The representatives of the Committee visiting Colombia were the Chairman, Charles Flanagan TD, John Brady TD and Barry Cowen TD, who met with Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Francisco Coy. During their meeting, it was discussed the importance of visa flexibilisation for Colombian citizens to facilitate the economic, cultural, education and people-to-people connections. The delegation met with the Vice-president of Colombia, Francia Marquez, civil society, business networks and a visit to the communities in La Guajira, among others. Read more.

Launch of the Regional Response Plan for Refugees and Migrants 2023-2024 GIFMM, Colombian Chapter
The Colombian Government and the GIFMM –interagency group conformed by Colombian authorities and UNCHR and IOM– launched on 13th of December the Colombian Chapter of the Regional Plan for Refugees and Migrants, and highlighted USD 665 million are required to support 1.6 million migrants and refugees in Colombia. Colombia is the country that has received the largest flow of Venezuelan refugees and migrants in the world, with an approximate figure of 2.48 million, according to official data. Vice Minister for Multilateral Affairs mentioned during the launch: "it is clear that no country can face the challenges that human mobility brings alone, so we must have a common agenda that guarantees regularization, access to rights and services, inclusion, free mobility and respect for and fulfillment of the human rights of all people. When all the countries of the region allow migrants and refugees to access opportunities for inclusion and services, such as health, education, housing, and social protection programs, we will transform migration into an opportunity for the development and growth of the region." This two-year Plan aims to cover the main needs in a complementary manner to the actions of the Government of Colombia, in socioeconomic integration, education, health, food security, protection (gender-based violence, childhood), water, sanitation and hygiene, among others.
