President Petro presented a decalogue of proposal for action at COP27

In his speech at COP 27 held in Egypt at the start of November, President Petro presented a decalogue --a call to action-- in which he mentioned it is world politics, that is, the mobilization of humanity that will correct the course of climate change. He also mentioned about Colombia’s commitment to save one of the pillars of the planet's climate: the Amazon jungle. Colombia will grant USD 200 million annually for 20 years to save the Amazon Rainforest.

Prior to travelling to Egypt to COP27, President Gustavo Petro sanctioned the law that approves the Escazu Agreement, the first regional environmental agreement in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the first in the world to contain specific provisions on human rights defenders in environmental issues.

On 15th November, Colombia joined GOWA, the Global Offshore Wind Alliance which includes some of the world’s biggest offshore wind energy producing countries at COP27 along with Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, the UK, the US, Australia and Portugal. The alliance will work to ramp up production with collaboration based on sharing methods and technology.

Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs announced the pacifist, participatory, and intersectional Feminist Foreign Policy of Colombia

On 3rd November, Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs of Colombia, Laura Gil, announced a series of sectoral dialogues with which a Colombian Feminist Foreign Policy will be jointly built, and which guidelines will be included in the National Development Plan. “This government is a government of rights, and that is how we want to project ourselves in the world, as a government of peace, a government of democracy. And that is why there is a Feminist Foreign Policy, which will be a foreign policy for men and women, will put on the table the promotion of the rights of women, girls, and diverse people assured Vice Minister Gil.

The Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs referred to the pillars on which this feminist foreign policy is being built. “One, pacifist, pacifist in line with the fundamental policy of the national government, Total Peace. Two participatory, creating dialogue scenarios not only here [in Colombia] but also in bilateral and multilateral settings. And three, and this is essential for us, not only inclusive, but intersectional”.
