Colombia will assume the CELAC pro tempore presidency on 9th April, a key opportunity to advance in regional unity

President Gustavo Petro, in his recent visit to Uruguay, held a bilateral meeting with the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, in which they confirmed that Colombia will assume the pro tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on 9th April during an official ceremony in Honduran territory. This leadership represents a key opportunity for Colombia to strengthen regional unity, consolidate a more active CELAC on the global stage and advance an integration agenda that benefits the 33 member countries. CELAC is the EU's official counterpart for the region-to-region Summit process and strategic partnership. This includes the implementation of a Roadmap of bi-regional initiatives in many sectors. Colombia and the impact of COP16 at the Sustainable Futures Forum 2025 held in the Cork

The Ambassador of Colombia in Ireland, Betty Escorcia Baquero, participated in the Sustainable Futures Forum 2025, an event that brings together experts and leaders to debate fundamental issues about climate and sustainability at the national and international level. The Ambassador attended at the special invitation of University College Cork (UCC), reaffirming the ties of cooperation between Ireland and Colombia in matters of sustainability and biodiversity. During the forum, Ambassador Escorcia presented her conference entitled Nature and Peace at the Crossroads: The Legacy of COP16 and Our Shared Responsibility for Biodiversity, in which she highlighted the impact and relevance of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16), held in Cali, Colombia. Ambassador Escorcia continues with Oireachtas engagement

The past 27th February, Ambassador Escorcia held a meeting with Ceann Comhairle, Deputy Verona Murphy, at Leinster House. The Ambassador expressed the appreciation for the interest of the Houses of Oireachtas in the consolidation of peace in Colombia. The Ambassador and the Ceann Comhairle agreed about the convenience of reactivating the Friendship Parliamentary Group Ireland Colombia. Learn more.

A special visit to the Midleton Distillery

At the end of January, Ambassador Betty Escorcia Baquero, Deputy Head of Mission Carlos Padrón and Cooperation Attaché Sergio Ramírez had the opportunity to visit the Midleton Distillery accompanied by Colombian distillery and brewing expert Ángela Coral.
